Barry Jones is a retired scientist who emigrated to the United States after graduating from the University of Wales with a Ph. D. in Chemistry. After a year long fellowship at the University of Arizona, he joined the DuPont company. Jones worked at several research and Plant development labs before retiring in 1999. During his time with DuPont, in 1998, he was named "Industrial Scientist of the Year" by the Tennessee Academy of Science.
After retirement, he followed a life long interest and became a part time professional soccer coach at the adult and youth levels, primarly coaching travel teams. He also was a coaching instructor with the Tennessee State Soccer Association. He held a United States Soccer Federation "A" licence. In 2003, he was inducted into the Tennessee State Soccer 'Hall of Fame'.
He became a writer and a storyteller after the rigors of coaching became too demanding. He is now a member of the Explorastory group in Hendersonville, Tennessee. He has told his stories numerous times and at many locations. The adjacent photograph (top) was taken at Arenal School in Costa Rica.
